A liquid with a lot of mass can have a low density and liquid with little mass can have a high density. Using alcohol, oil, water, glycerin, and syrup we will see how the different liquids will layer into a specific order. Meaning that the densest heaviest liquid will be on the bottom of the jar and the least dense lightest liquid will be on top.
The order of the liquids from heaviest to lightest will be syrup, glycerin, water, oil, and then alcohol will be on top. The five layers will remain separated because each liquid is actually floating on top of the more dense liquid directly beneath it. Buoyancy of a liquid will determine where the liquid will settle in the jar among the layers. The different types of mixtures determine how the liquid will settle which relates back to the density of a liquid.
Certain solutions have mixtures that determine the density of the liquid. The concepts that are covered are related to the Alabama Course of Study on page 59 for 24 for fifth grade science. Name of the liquids that are being used the liquids according to what your table thinks the liquids will layer in the jar the liquids according to how it was poured first liquid to last liquid the liquids in which layer that they occur when the experiment is finished Density from botttom to top of the five layers label it B1 — B5 1.
When doing this lesson on liquid layers, I would have never thought that it would turn out like it did. To begin the lesson I only touched on the high points of density. A huge mistake I made, was to begin with, was not labeling the cup with the name of that particular liquid. Which of the following happens due to atmospheric refraction?

Join The Discussion. Latent heat B. Nuclear fusion C. Refractive index D. Stock value. View Answer. Radiocarbon is produced in the atmosphere as a result of A. They are tightly packed, giving solids high densities. The particles in liquids are close together. Although they are randomly arranged, they are still tightly packed, giving liquids high densities.
The density of a substance as a liquid is usually only slightly less than its density as a solid. For example, the density of solid aluminium is 2.
