Why does ifc have so many commercials

In their words:. IFC does not censor or edit films for time. IFC is the only place independent films live unedited and in their entirety. The last sentence has been untrue for some time, ignoring the efforts of the Sundance Channel.

Now companies have been taught to do the social media thing to communicate with the fans. Nice one, Bob. These Ads have the potential to create some great shows and …content that would otherwise never get off the ground.

The ellipses are his, not mine. Does it sound like something a fan would write on his own? This person might be receiving some compensation from IFC or a related party. I defend your addition of Commercials. I know you needed to do it, and I acknowledge the necessity of the move. For the record, there is no proof — just suspicion. Read these and others and judge for yourself. IFC has made an extreme shift in philosophy. You can tell from the many responses that this caught fans by surprise.

And people wrote to IFC and used social media to find out what was going on. Based on what IFC has written, they were prepared for the switch even if no one else was. The channel was one of two major cable channels that catered to independent film lovers. Unlike a lot of cable programming, independent and foreign films are difficult to find.

And you paid extra for cable for IFC, you are still paying that amount, even with the commercials during the movies. A human reaction would be to feel bad, but point out why you wanted to do this. This was well below a human reaction, and even some corporate ones. Posted in advertising , media criticism , Supreme Court , television.

Subscribe to comments with RSS. The quality of the movies IFC is showing lately is not up to their previous standards. Guess IFC feels that if you want to see good independent movies uniterrupted, go pay for them at the Movies On Demand channel. IFC, go to hell. I tried to watch a film last week and saw these damn commercials and almost died.

I guess we just cannot be free of fucking advertisements and propaganda these days. Its bad enough that when you go to the movies, you are now beat to death by ADS and bull before the movie, but now at home as well? Frank Lesanti is correct. The company that owns these channels has slowly destroyed them like a form of chinese water torture. Keeping the origional channel names is ridiculous considering what they have become.

They apparently also own Sundance Channel so expect the same slow death. I used to hunt IFC to seee what great movies it was showing for the week and either make a point of DVRing them or watching them. Glad to see that I am not the only one to notice this or be mad about it. See the error of your ways. First it was the logos on screen, then it was the credit squeezes. Now commercials, not just in between the films but during the films.

Forget about this nonsense and these are film aficianados? A real sad day! I will never be able to bring myself to watch it again. I just turned the channel. Greed wins out again. This is very disappointing. This is a premium channel I pay for. I will contact my cable company and complain—slthough I doubt it will do much good. Sadly, this will be the fate of all commercial free cable channels in the near future. They have finally suceeded in transforming cable TV into one big network of commercial marketing..

I am so depressed over this. Its like we are fast forwarding toward an even more Draconian society than envisioned in various films such as Fahrenheit We cannot enjoy a damn film now without this nonsense? You suck just as much as they do. I was hoping the new IFC programming policy was only seasonal.

I understand why a premium network would seek out new streams of revenue but IFC has destroyed one of the characteristics that set them apart from their competition. There are signs that a good portion of home video entertainment will be shifting to the Internet.

Is IFC trying to move their audience toward a new medium? If this is true, then I would cancel my satellite subscription so fast that it would make your head spin. Lord what is this world coming to. Simply put, IFC is no longer watchable: 7 minutes of programming then 4 minutes of lame-assed commercials. This is worse than fucking network TV. If those are offended by the language, we hope you understand our point of view. But try to not stretch the boundaries too far.

Racist, sexist stuff will be modified to semi-reasonable standards. The funniest part of all this is the use of Always Uncut as their slogan. Use of muting curse words, black boxes to hide nudity fake body parts by the way , etc.

Just unwatchable! They always ran ads between shows and I had no problem with that, but this is just not worth it anymore! Hell yeah, Andrew. I will never watch them again. Not that I watched much in the first place. This used to be an oasis for true movie lovers and edgy comedy.

IFC, you moronic bunch of born-again philistines … your previous audience was faithful and pretty damned near worshipped IFC. I gotta agree with everyone else here. I was watching a movie on IFC the other day and nearly fell off the couch when it was interupted by a commercial.

Now one of my favorite channels has been ruined and I will no longer be watching it. If you think youre gonna make more money by having commercials youre wrong, because you are losing A LOT of viewers over this. Really depressing…. Saw a commercial for going to school online in pajamas followed by Magic Jack. I already had Netflix streaming to my TV and I watch it much more often.

IFCs new commercial policy ruins one of the few channels i watched regularly on cable tv. This same greedy, shortsighted move removed AMC from my household. Goodbye IFC. Last year I signed up for the basic cable package, which includes IFC, so I could enjoy some decent films rather than being forced to suffer through the garbage shown on local television. Actually, I had completely stopped watching television for 4 years, and had to go out and get a new tv before signing up for basic cable.

A couple of nights ago, I was watching American Psycho and something seemed a bit odd. When the commercials came on I got up and went to another room to do a few minutes of work, just like anyone does while watching any show.

You do that, then come back when you hear the show is back on. No, what I noticed was an entire scene was missing. I had been anticipating that scene and noticed it was missing right away. About an hour ago, I sat down to eat dinner and watch Bad Lieutenant. I just get up and leave the room or change the channel for a few minutes. So I was trying to enjoy my dinner, and Bad Lieutenant, despite the flow being constantly broken up.

Then, it happened again — an entire scene that I had been anticipating, was just not there. I can watch shite on regular tv, for free, and download something when I need a few hours of quality viewing to relax. The commercials are bad enough, but how dare you cut up good films?

IFC was adamant about not censoring the movies themselves. How unfortunate it is. IFC now officially drops to its knees in prostration. Since I never saw the movie I have no idea whether or not anything was censored but I sure as hell got the flow of the movie messed up by all those ads. We get ads on IFC. I know there are far more important things in the world but this fucking sucks eggs.

I used to be a fan of your network. But since you sold yourself Out for commercials and edited content I will never watch your channel again. Hoping you go out of business real soon. I am sick of adverts and never watch them cause I tape everything to fast forward through it.

Wasted money IMO.. I am so sock of being inundated everywhere with them. Well, add the Sundance Channel to the list of channels interrupting movies with commercials. Completely killed the flow of the film. It only happend every 30 minutes or so but it still ruined it for me. One idea in response to this would be an outright boycott of anything advertised on IFC. It was a sad day when I saw the first commercials on this channel, but things have gotten progressively worse as time has gone by.

They are showing fewer and fewer truly Indy films and are instead bombarding us with poorly edited crap that you can find anywhere. It also pisses me off that they originally claimed to be looking into ads that catered to their demographic but instead now show the same asinine commercials that you see on regular network TV.

The worst, in my opinion, being the one for Free Credit Score, a site that is known for being a scam and using deceptive business practices to bilk people out of money. Maybe they can team up to become even more adept at ripping people off…. Nothing breaks the mood and makes me start channel surfing that a ineptly placed ad just at before, after or during an important part of thee film when continuity is apex in keeping a suspension-of-disbelief… Then POW! A diaper or Med-Aleret ad….

Was flipping through the channels tonight and as usual, not a goddamn thing on worth watching, when suddenly I saw Blood Simple was on IFC in 15 minutes. Getting excited, I got some snacks and sat down. Since when does IFC have commercials?

I looked it up on the internet. Since December 18th, apparently. I mean, why do they think people are canceling their cable subscriptions for things like Netflix, Huluplus, or my personal favorite, torrent downloads?

Is it because maybe these formats offer more to watch for less money and no ads? I hope everyone stops watching IFC and I hope their company withers and dies. Maybe then the corporate executives will realize the price of selling their souls, and at least the former fans could have a little karmic justice for their betrayal. I really think it sucks too!!! All in all were paying more on our bill and getting less out of it…….. Billy C. Once my contract is up with directv.

And uncensored? Yeah right. I was watching The Piano and noticed a nude scene cut down like any other movie channel.
