By adding oxides to the base and grinding you will achieve two things: 1. You will grind oxides to even smaller particles which will feel smooth on the skin; 2. You will mix oxides with the base allowing them to evenly color the base and show the full color.

When working with iron oxides, make sure you take your time to grind them well, otherwise your eyeshadow may feel gritty and look streaky on application.
